Michael Bowman Collection

Hey Scouters!!

With a great deal of sadness I am aquiriring Michael Bowman ("Professor Beaver")'s collection of Scouting memorbilia, spanning some 80 years of Scouting and more than 70 years of his life.

Mike is suffering from some serious medical ailments and can not "Beaver any more". His basement, containing a vast library of books, manauls and guides, will have to find new homes and storage places. I cannot hold his collection -- my small office room in Minnesota is bursting at the seams. My original plan to house everything in the basement of my family's home in Kentucky also fell through, as we have some serious mold abatement we have to deal with there in the new year.

Because Mike was active in Firecrafters as well as the Order of the Arrow, he has considerable documents and publications of both organizations as part of his library. He is not healthy enough to assist me and his wife with cataloging everything in his library/study but his wife took time from her care of her husband to take photos which are shown below. I can provide copies of them to those interested by emailing me at settummanque@yahoo.com and placing in the subject line "Mike Bowman collection".

It has been Mike's hope that his books and publications be held in a Scouting musuem of some sort, and I have made tentative arrangements to donate some of the publications, including the ones he personally wrote, to Scouting collections in the Midwest. The items shown here are some of Mike's items he had on shelves in that basement area.

It has been my personal honor to know Mike and his entire family, having met Mike for the first time in 1994. He asked me to be come on board with the U.S. Scouting Service Project, Inc. a couple of years later; and we have been taking the lead in building the USSSP into something those in and outside of Scouting admire. Mike also brought on board others who lent their Scouting and electronic computing knowledge toward several improvements to the Project.

If you are interested in the materials, please post me ( emailing me) and let me know please. If you know of someone or some museum who may be interested, please also let me know in the same manner. (The BSA's national museum and archives are not interested.)

Thanks!

The Badge and Uniform Site is a proud part of the U.S. Scouting Service Project, Inc's family of websites and resources!
