The Transatlantic Council had one of the largest assortment of camping and outdoor facilities in the Boy Scouts of America. At one time, the TAC had nine summer camps all operating during the summer months for it's members and those members of the Direct Service Council living in Europe, Africa or the Middle East. The camp segments display the flag of the country or principality in which the camp was located in with the name of the camp in black with a black border.
I have attempted to describe where the camp was located; in some cases, I don't have any idea because I never attended that camp facility. If you know where those camps were located or have other camps which I do not have segments for, please let me know and I'll update the page and give you the credit for assisting me.
The ones in which I've earned appear with a green background; the ones that I've collected over the past ten years appear with a red background:

The TAC issued several Camporee segments over the years; the official booklets of the TAC states that "one color is provided each year"; however in reality, there existed a "Spring", "Fall", "Winter", and special Camporee segments for Exploring youth and adults. Each Camporee segment is identical except for the background and "tipi" colors used, with the wording "Camporee" in black lettering in the center of the segment:
SPRING CAMPOREE | |
FALL CAMPOREE | |
WINTER CAMPOREE | |
EXPLORING/SPECIAL CAMPOREE

Other special camping and outdoor program segments:
LONG TERM CAMPING -- This segment is earned by Scouts, Explorers and their adult leaders for taking part in a camp of at least 6 days and nights OR who have qualified for the 50-Miler Award. The two emblems on the segment are a tipi (for camping) and a shoe (for hiking)
KLONDIKE DERBY -- This segment is earned by Scouts, Explorers and their adult leaders for taking part in a Klondike Derby, either as part of a winter camporee or as a separate event (not too popular in Greece, Morrocco or on the Azores Islands!) |
These segments are part of the personal insignia collection of Mike Walton .
Thank you, Chuck Kirkland and Rev. Carl D Bartholomew, for additional background information on some of the camps as well as segments sent to me to be scanned; and to Bob Cylkowski for the additional segment scans. Please post him if you have Far East or Transatlantic Council items for trade or sale!
