The Transatlantic Council has a unique set of awards that honor individuals and units that participate in national programs and activities, have participated with host-nation Scouting organizations and groups, and those which assist the Council in their growth and promotion to their public.
These segments are earned or presented to Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, their adult leaders and in some cases, to host-nation members for their participation in the program or event. Additionally, there are some awards which come with flag streamers for the unit's flag.
The ones in which I've earned appear with a green background; the ones that I've collected over the past ten years appear with a red background:
FRIENDSHIP AWARD -- for Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and adults who complete 15 of 22 "friendship projects". This is one of the few segments which has a unit flag streamer associated with it | |
UNIFORMED --- originally available only to Cub Scouts, the award was extended to all BSA members and adults; segment is awarded for passing the annual uniform inspection as part of the unit's rechartering process | |
BOYS' LIFE (traditional) -- The "Double Horseshoe" is the trademark of Pedro, the Boy's Life mascot. This segment is earned by units which has 100% of all of it's youth members subscribing to this fine magazine; a unit streamer also comes with the segments | |
BOYS' LIFE (recent) -- The "Floppy Head and Ears" is the trademark of Pedro, the Boy's Life mascot. This segment is earned by units which has 100% of all of it's youth members subscribing to this fine magazine; a unit streamer also comes with the segments (scan provided by Bob Cylkowski) | |
SOAR --- SOAR stands for Save Our American Resources, the BSA's conservation/environmental program emphasis. Cubs and Scouts meeting requirements for advancement, or units participating in a conservation project , or those meeting requirements for special conservation awards are eligible for this segment | |

RECRUITER --- presented for getting another Cub, Scout, Explorer or adult to become a TAC member | |
BOYPOWER '76 -- special recruiter's segment presented to Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and adults whom recruited another during the BSA's BOYPOWER program emphasis years (1970-75) | |
HONOR UNIT 77 -- special segment presented to Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and adults whose unit attained Honor Unit status in 1977. There were no other Honor Unit segments as far as I'm aware (scan provided by Bob Cylkowski) | |
OLYMPICS -- given to participants and staff members for taking part in a unit, District or Council Cub Scout or Explorer Olympics (this is the Explorer Olympic segment which was used before special Cub Scout Olympics segments were created) | |

SCOUTORAMA -- given to participants for taking part in a District Scoutorama | |
SCOUTORAMA (most current) -- given to participants for taking part in a District Scoutorama | |
PERSONAL FITNESS -- given to Scouts and Explorers whom take part in the Presidential Physical Fitness Program and who earned the patch | |
PARADE -- given to participants for taking part in a Parade | |
SCOUTERVERSITY TRAINING -- given to participants for taking part in a District Scouterversity | |
OUTPOST OF FREEDOM -- FORMERLY A CONTROLLED SEGMENT (you could ONLY get ONE segment per trip and ONLY from the TAC Berlin office, where it was registered by name), it was presented with a certificate to Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and adults participating in a trip across the "Iron Curtain" via the "duty train" between Frankfort and Berlin; for hiking the Berlin Historical Trail, and who writes an essay on "What Freedom Means to Me" | |
INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES --- formerly awarded with the World Crest Award; the segment was earned by anyone who participated in a BSA-approved international activity or event, a National or World Jamboree, or who earned the World Crest Award prior to 1992 | |
ORDER OF THE ARROW CONCLAVE/ACTIVITY --- this special HALF SEGMENT with a yellow "Peace Pipe" was given to Scouts, Scouters and adults whom attended a OA Conclave or other Lodge or Chapter activity. The segment was popular because it could be used to "complete whole circles". | |
